How to Clay and Seal Your Paint

Decontaminate, clay, then protect.

  1. Wash the car. See How to Wash Your Car.
  2. On the cool, washed surface out of direct sun, spray Decon evenly. Let it dwell a few minutes (do not let it dry), then rinse thoroughly.
  3. Dry the car.
  4. Spray a section with Detail Spray and glide a clay bar back and forth with light pressure until it moves smoothly. Wipe the section dry and fold the clay to a clean face often. Throw away clay that is dropped on the ground.
  5. If you used Aggressive clay and see haze or marring, polish the paint. See Which Polishing Pad Do I Need?
  6. Optional: remove hard-water spots with Water Spot Remover for a clean base. Test on a small area first.
  7. Apply a small amount of Paint Sealant to a microfiber applicator or pad. Spread a thin, even layer one panel at a time.
  8. Let it set about 30 minutes, then buff off with a clean plush microfiber towel.
